Dr. Betty (Elizabeth) Summers has served as the RE-1 Valley School District Superintendent of Schools since 2003.  She has worked with the Board of Education, staff, and community to continue to improve student achievement and to ensure that school facilities provide a learning environment that supports 21st century skills and technology.

Dr. Summers earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Washburn University in Topeka Kansas.  She earned her Doctorate of Education Degree from Kansas State University in 1992.  Her dissertation focused on student achievement, mobility and socio-economic status.  She has served in various professional educational roles from classroom teacher to building principal before moving to the position of superintendent. 

Dr. Summers is married to Ken Summers.  They have two adult children, one son-in-law, and a two-year old granddaughter.  Dr. Summers and her husband take part in various community activities and service organizations.  They enjoy following student activities in the RE-1 Valley School District.
