CMAS coming up soon

Next week our students will begin taking our state tests in English, math, science and social studies, called the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS).

As with past years, the tests will be divided into sections that will be administered over several days. Students are not being tested for any lengthier time frame than in past years, schools must spread the tests out over a longer time frame based on computer availability.  There are simply not enough computers to have every student testing at the same time.  The English Language Arts and Math tests will be taken in two blocks. The first block is given earlier because it contains more writing tasks that must be hand graded, and that will take more time.  The second block will be given at the end of the school year, and it can be completely scored by computers.

Your child’s participation is important! The results will help you know how your son or daughter is performing and growing over time and how that compares to his/her peers. You deserve to know!

Strong participation is critical for our teachers and administrators to understand if our school is doing all it can to help our students prepare for success in college, career and life.

If you haven’t already, I encourage you to take a look at the practice tests available through the Colorado Department of Education’s website at http://www.cde.state.co.us/assessment/CMASPracticeTest.

If you’d like to learn more about the new standards or tests, CDE has a number of additional resources on its website at http://www.cde.state.co.us/communications/resourcesforparents.

USEFUL LINKS
PARENT/GUARDIAN RESOURCES
In the event of inclement weather, or dangerous driving conditions, school delay or cancelation notification will be posted on the top of the homepage. A reverse phone message will also go to all families and staff.  Additional information about snow days are under the parent tab.

The RE-1 Valley School District website has several "Parent Resources" in the "Parent" link on the home page.  You will find information for parents about special topics in addition to links to community resources.  As always, feel free to contact your child's school if you find that you need additional support for any of the topics in that "Parent" link. School staff will be able to find the correct contact to assist with supporting RE-1 Valley students and families. -Children should report any suspicious behavior or any behavior that makes them uncomfortable to an adult as soon as possible.
