WATER UPDATE FOR CITY OF STERLING SCHOOLS
Notices sent to City of Sterling residents state that Sterling water is not an immediate health risk. The city states that some people who drink water containing total Trihalomethanes in excess of the Maximum Content Level over many years may experience some health problems.
The Health Department checks all water the RE-1 Valley School District uses in its buildings once a month. The health department completes 15 separate tests each month around the city. There is no reason to avoid cooking, drinking or washing with the water, according to the Logan County Health Department.
The school district is providing water stations with reverse osmosis water to students in the cafeterias as a courtesy to our school children through the end of this semester. The City of Sterling reports that the mineral maximum content levels will be corrected by January 14, 2014.
Lunch rates are: $1.85 at the elementary level and $2.25 at the secondary level. Reduced price lunch is free for Pre-K through 2nd grade through state funding rates are 40 cents for grades 3-12. Breakfast is available at the elementary and secondary levels at a cost of $1.25; there is no charge for breakfast for students qualifying for reduced meals. Free and Reduced Meal Applications are available in each school office, at the Administration Center and on this website.

RECORDINGS OF BOARD MEETINGS
Colorado law requires Boards of Education to record meetings where a vote is taken and to maintain those records for a period of time. Recordings for meetings where votes have been taken for the 2013 calendar year are available under the "School Board" link above. When clicking on "School Board" the choice of Upcoming Board Agenda will be displayed as a link. Click on that link and go to the bottom of the web page. Under the heading of "Department Links" one will find the Board meeting recordings for 2013 calendar year. There are no recordings of work sessions where no votes are taken.
The RE-1 Valley School District has discussed the topic of the Endorsed Diploma over the past several years. An Endorsed Diploma Work Group examined current requirements and benefits for student graduating from Colorado high schools as they pursue post secondary education opportunities in Colorado. On Tuesday, February 19, the Board of Education voted to "table the discussion of Endorsed Diploma until a later date."
